“You might think Tokyo is happening fashion wise, but people dress just like cut-outs from monthly fashion magazines - the majority of people follow what they see on paper. The media always takes control of what's hot and what's not in Japan." So claims fashion designer and FFYR founder, Yasuo Haruyama. ![]() Influenced by the flawless East-meets-West fusion of Rei Kawakubo (Commes de Garçons) and Japanese avant-garde artist Taro Okamoto, Haruyama's designs are deliberately out of step with the mainstream while never losing sight of what people desire. In the label's three year existence, Haruyama claims there has never been an underlying theme to FFYR collections, choosing instead to work to a continued concept of contrast. ![]()
"The message is distinctively revealed in the lines," he explains. It is about "beauty and ugliness; stylish imbalance."
The most recent FFYR collection incorporates utilitarian hats and bags and tailored jackets, tees with bold graphics, and fitted all-over-print joggers and hoodies, illustrating the brand's unique marriage of high-end design and street wear detailing. |
