Spike Jonze's adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s story 'Where The Wild Things Are’ hits the big screen this month at cinema’s across the country.

Five years in the making, with Jonze enlisted as director in 2003, the much-anticipated film adaptation brings to life the story of Max, a disobedient and imaginative young boy who escapes from home to an imaginary island inhabited by monsters.

Featuring a combination of real-life action, animatronics, and CGI-animated creatures, voiced by actors James Gandolfini and Forest Whitaker among others, ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ is a bold and expansive attempt to immortalise Sendak’s beloved tour de force in motion picture format.

The film’s soundtrack was written by Jonze’s ex-girlfriend Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, and includes contributions from band mates Nick Zinner and Brian Chase, as well as Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox, and Dead Weather duo Dean Fertita and Jack Lawrence.

‘Where The Wild Things Are’ is out in the UK on Friday, December 11
